Being a hot air balloon pilot has allowed me to travel and meet all
sorts of interesting people.
I thought on my last trip to Kenya I might have a stab at
interviewing some of them and making a podcast of the results. All
this whilst waiting for the Wildebeest migration to arrive in August
of 2005.
This task has taken me much longer than I expected. I really did not
think it would be all that hard and to be honest I don't think it
sounds great.
But that surely is the joy of Podcast's it is not supposed to be a
professional production.
I think this is the first Podcast made by somebody that actually
lives and works in the Maasai Mara.
Lets hope as I get my head around how RSS feeds work and how to
really run Audacity so that I can make things better!
I'm banging the first effort out as I have been dithering and playing
with it for ages and have decided that I will probably never be
happy with so I might as well get it out and see what happens.

So now the next day I have published this page and some changes, now
to add the 21 mb file. It may not sound huge to those in broadband
land but here were its dial up only and very expensive it's the
largest file I have ever moved. Having just listened to it again I
have decided I really hate it! My friend
Lev David,
radio producer and media guru will probably beat me with a stick if
he ever hears it. The other major pain is I have to work out how to
write an RSS feed and where on earth it is placed. On my own site in
an html file? On a site like feedburner. I really cannot find the
answer anywhere. Or am I just searching in a dumb way.

Safari
Cast Show 1 30 minutes 21 mb
er I think that feed button should work.
In it we shall first meet a fantastic chap, Dr Richard Estes. If you
have been on safari you probably have one of his guide books. The
Most Famous being the Safari Companion.
Dr Estes was the animal lecturer in the evenings at Governors Camp
where we both were based.
Not only was he very interesting but he was a great sport to boot.
For some obscure reason I frequently set up his projector and screen
for him. The lectures happening at the bar overlooking the Mara
River led to some perhaps robust conversations. Where possible I
have removed the expletives!
Dr Estes also made the mistake of letting me have a copy of his folk
singing which of course has made its way into the Podcast.
To quote the cover of the Safari Companion.....
[The Safari Companion] will foster a deeper appreciation of Africa's
wildlife by teaching people on safari to be better observers and to
understand how animals interact with each other and with their
environment. This book is more than a field guide; it is a valuable
tool for conservation.

Fund (USA)
Next its Colin Welensky who was running the BBC Big Cat
Diary camp. Colin has the most

fantastic gardens which we could all grab fresh produce from.
Most welcome in a place where everything is flown in.
The team from Big Cat Diary were great fun and held reserved and
measured parties. Well that's the sort of thing I was told to say.
Colin has been a safari guide and professional hunter for many years
and is now managing Main Governors Camp.
He was also fantastic with my boys, here with Daniel.
Lastly its Elly, who in camp was my next door neighbour. Whilst not
actually wanting to be interviewed directly she did not mind me
snatching excerpts of our daily lives.

Safari Cast Show 2 13 minutes
In which we finish the boat crossing story. Meet Max for the first
time and enjoy yet more wise words and abuse from Dr Richard Estes.
This show is much shorter because I was told it should be!!
It also means I can make more production mistakes and have others
tell me at a quicker rate.
